CRI’s Internationalization on Track of Development

In an era of economic globalization, CRI has to be internationalized in order to become a leading institute in the world. In recent years, the internationalization of CRI has been on track of fast development by talents attraction, organizing international conferences, overseas activities participation and cooperative researches initiation. The progress of CRI\'s internationalization has been recognized by the award of "Excellence in international cooperation and exchange" for 2005 to 2010 from Southwest University.

1. Establish Specific Office and Train Management Team Familiar with International Rules for  Scientific Research & Education

CRI established the International Cooperation & Exchange and Graduate Students\' Affairs Office this year to integrate the international cooperation and exchange resources within the institute. The newly founded office formulated regulations to illustrate its functions and the members\' responsibilities. It is also coordinated by the International Cooperation & Exchange Office of Southwest University and the International Cooperation Department of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences to expand CRI\'s international cooperation and exchange work and move towards the target of becoming an international scientific research and education institute.

Dr. ZHAO Xiaochun, a Chinese Australian, began to work in CRI as a full-time employee this year, through which CRI explored the mechanism to establish long-term working relationship with foreigners of Chinese ancestry. Up until now, CRI has sent one researcher to participate a one-year cooperative research in the US, and another two are about to set off for US later this year. In July, 2012, Pro. ZHOU Changyong paid a one-month visit to Australia for collaboration and exchange. In November, the delegation of CRI attended the International Citrus Congress 2012 in Valencia, Spain.

2. Latest News of CRI\'s International Cooperation and Exchange

On April 13th, 2012, the Belgium Education Group visited CRI and initiated agreement on strengthening cooperation and promoting graduate students exchange programs with CRI. On April 24th, Mr. Azzolino Luiz, the Chief Operation Officer of CP Kelco, visited CRI and reached preliminary collaboration with CRI on advanced processing of citrus. From May 15th to 19th, Prof. WANG Dayuan, who once worked in CRI and made great contributions to the tissue culture of citrus, gave an academic speech on “Industrialization of Genetically Modified Crops” in CRI. He was invited as CRI’s Cause Development Adviser. Dr. Khurshid from the Dareton Experiment Station, Department of Agriculture, Fishery and Forestry of the Australian government, visited CRI and discussed the possibility of cooperation with CRI on the assessment of citrus rootstocks. Prof. HUANG Jizhang from the International Cooperation Department, Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences attended the meeting on international cooperation and exchange affairs in CRI.
